Teaching Experience

Instructor of music at Mills High School in Millbrae, CA August of 2008 to 2016 (retired). Courses taught: Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Choir and Art of Video. Achieved First Unanimous Superior (6 total) ratings in over 20 years Mills Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. Started Art of Video Program. Hosted first ever CMEA Band and Orchestra Festivals at Mills in 2015 and 2016.

Instrumental Music Specialist for the San Mateo - Foster City Schools (CA) beginning September of 2007. Helped to develop and launch a revolutionary elementary school instrumental music program in which every 5th grade student (over 1000) paticipated. (unfortunately this program was cut due to extreme budget shortfalls)

Director of the West Bay Community Band since 2004 - Adult and Community Education for the San Mateo Union High School District - a group of community musicians ages 18 to 94 enjoying a lifelong love of music in practice and performance.

Instructor of music for the Summer Enrichment Program 2003 to 2008, including Jazz Improvisation and Interpretation Intensive at Crystal Springs Uplands School, Hillsborough, California.

Instructor of music at Carlmont High School, Belmont, California from 2005 to 2007. Increased enrollment, started Tri-M Chapter, helped produce two highly successful musicals, planned and directed tours to Los Angeles (1st Place Gold - Unanimous Superior) and New York City (another 1st Place Gold - Unanimous Superior), a total of 7 Superior ratings (5 of them unanimous) at festivals in just 2 years, increased community outreach, expanded orchestra offerings, gave over 30 performances per year, worked on theatre development committee. Instructor of music at Bayside Middle School for the Arts and Creative Technology and for the San Mateo - Foster City Schools (CA) from 1984 to 2005. Developed elementary school instrumental music program, from scratch, to include thousands of students. Helped develop the curriculum for Bayside Middle School for the Arts and Creative Technology including extensive standards work. Developed a computer music and MIDI/digital audio course using the school's Macintosh Lab. Created and maintained the school website from 1996 until 2005. Two time PTA Honorary Service Award Member (1999 and 2001). In 2001, Bayside was designated a California Distinguished School with Special Recognition in the Arts, one of only two middle schools in the state to be so honored.

Brass Instrument Specialist at the College of San Mateo Summer Youth Music and Fine Arts Camp from 1988 to 1995 (music administrator in 1990).

Instructor of music for the Belmont City Schools in Belmont, California for the 1984 - 85 school year. (This was a half-time position concurrent with a half-time position in San Mateo.)

Adjudicator and Clinician at many Northern California Jazz Festivals and Concert Band Festivals since 1976. Technical

Music typesetter and CD recording engineer for Gymboree Play & Music from 1999 - 2005. Responsible for all music typsetting in their world-wide publications. Webmaster for: West Bay Community Band, Dentisry and All That Jazz, Safari - Latin Jazz, Gold and Brass, Mills High School Music, Alliance for Resolution, (formerly: Bayside Middle School, San Mateo Elementary Teachers Association, and others...). I was co-owner of two music stores and a sound company (worked with Juice Newton, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Taj Mahal, the David Grisman Quintet, Rose Maddox, Hank Williams, Jr. and many others).
