Accomplishments at Carlmont
Accomplishments at Carlmont High School during the 2005-6 and 2006-7 school years:
- the addition of many new performances to the calendar (almost doubling the schedule - nearly 60 performances in two years)
- two highly successful student based pit orchestras (The Wizard of Oz - first ever all student group - and 42nd Street)
- Chamber Music Night (huge successes)
- Swing Dance Night (the Jazz Band performed two full sets and rocked the house for dozens of eager dancers)
- Pops Concert (another huge success - 600 people, raised over $5000 - all groups performed individually and together for the grand finale)
- the founding of the first Tri-M (International Music Honor Society) Chapter ever at Carlmont
- supported Save the Music (fundraiser to help Belmont music programs) with 4 groups (2 Carlmont Groups and 2 Pro groups) as compared to just one school group in the past
- 1st liveÊperformance by a Carlmont group on KFOG radio
- a highly successful tour to Anaheim (Orchestra received Best in Category Gold Award - Unanimous Superior and received a 1st Place trophy)
- Orchestra invited to attend Gold Heritage Festival in Boston, a rare honor
- a highly successful tour to New York CityÊ(Orchestra again received Gold Award - Unanimous Superior and received a 1st Place)
- Orchestra again invited to a Heritage Gold Festival
- increasedÊenrollment in Instrumental Music both years and enrollment is up again for next year
- expanded orchestra offerings to include both Intermediate and Advanced groups thus providing better learning opportunities for all students and further improving the already strong advanced group
- seven Superior ratings in just two years at Music Festivals (5 of them Unanimous Superior)
- positive evaluations and classroom observations
